“What an amazing experience!”

Well I’m back from Laos, and what an amazing experience it was – just as you said it would be.

I really had no idea what to expect.. and felt a little trepidation, but Somsouk, the volunteer coordinator was great and all worries were quickly forgotten.

I was surprised at the enthusiasm of the students and how hard they work at learning English, as a means to trying to get into university or for better job opportunities. They are tireless in their efforts. They were so welcoming too, it really was great, I felt they were my friends, they loved to hear about Australia and to tell me about Laos. (What a beautiful country by the way). We had a lot of laughs, I taught them a simple song with actions and that was hilarious!

The biggest thing I’ll take away from this experience is that being very, very poor doesn’t mean you can’t and won’t strive to achieve great things. Adversity is not a deterrent.
