Volunteering is a life changing experience! I did the education programme in Cape Town, South Africa. I spent 3 weeks in a primary school in Salt River an area near the city center attended by children from 5 to 14 years old. They came from various townships in Cape Town thus most of them had to travel for hours to go to school and were very poor. I assisted the teachers during classes and helped the children with their work. I really felt that I was needed because the classes are too big and the teachers need help with their classes. I had a very good time at that school because the children were lovely and really liked us from the first minute on. I immediately got used to school, the children and the whole environment.Besides the great time I spend at the school I also really enjoyed Cape Town. It is one of the greatest cities I have ever visited and there is so much to do there. I met a lot of awesome people that I hope I will meet again soon. Everything was well organized and I had great support from Love Volunteers. They were always available before, during and after my stay in Cape Town.
If I had to plan my volunteer work again I would do exactly the same with one difference… I would apply for more weeks!
